Artist's Buffet: Resources

smARTkids This site is associated with the University of Chicago. For students, it provides ways to look at, think about, and respond creatively to art. The site highlights an artist of the month ( it has over 10,000 pieces to explore) and utilizes support from teachers and parents in advocacy for art.
National Gallery of Art This site contains many interactive art activities as wells as online tours, education and resources; useful for both, teachers and students.
The Artist Toolkit Minneapolis Institute of Art. This site emphasizes and illustrates the elements and principles of art. Useful to students and teachers.
The Umbrella Project The Umbrella Project is a site for involvement in a service-learning project in Arizona. The information is beneficial to students and teachers; it outlines the purpose of the project and the information outlining how to get involved in the project.
Art Stream Library The Art Stream Library is a “social-outreach project whose mission is to connect contemporary functional ceramics with ordinary people.” The site is treated like a library in the way that it allows one to check out handmade cups from known artists. In exchange for the loan of the cup, the library asks that a photo and blog are posted on the site to encourage a sponsorship of creativity. An art teacher could utilize this site as a cultural exchange experience for ceramic students.
Access Ceramics This site supports the advancement of ceramics education through images. Both, teachers and students, are able to utilize the information provided. Ceramic pieces are categorized according to the following searches: artist, collection, glazing/surface, material, object type, technique and temperature.
American Art Museum This site is resourceful for students in many aspects. The resource tool called, Ask Joan of Art, allows student to ask an art information specialist about questions relating to art. Another tool, Luce Foundation Center, enables students to explore more than 3,300 works of art; it provides specific information about a selected piece as well as a brief description. The Educational Resources link is resourceful for teachers as well.
The J. Paul Getty Museum The J. Paul Getty Museum seeks to further knowledge of the visual arts and to nurture critical seeing by collecting, preserving, exhibiting and interpreting works of art of the highest quality.
The Art Institute of Chicago Through numerous programs and resources, the Art Institute strives to increase art awareness and appreciation by providing engaging student tours, user-friendly resources in the Educator Resource Center, online educational resources, hands-on workshops and teacher in-services that demonstrate ways to integrate museum resources into classroom curricula.
Artful Thinking: Art History Resources The purpose of the Artful Thinking site is to “help teachers regularly use works of art and music in their curriculum in ways that strengthen student thinking and learning.” The site provides classroom resources as well as art resources such as: images, museum websites, and artist websites. The site is useful for teachers and students.
Google Art. Explore museums from around the world, discover and view hundreds of artworks at incredible zoom levels, and even create and share your own collection of masterpieces.
Phoenix Art Museum.The Museum's vast collection includes works of art that span the centuries and the globe. The eclectic pieces comprise several diverse and stimulating galleries, winning the praise of visitors and critics alike.
